Jesus Mocked and Beaten^(A)

⁶³^(B)Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and ^(C)beat Him. ⁶⁴^[a]And having blindfolded Him, they ^(D)struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” ⁶⁵And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.

Jesus Faces the Sanhedrin^(E)

⁶⁶^(F)As soon as it was day, ^(G)the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, ⁶⁷^(H)“If You are the Christ, tell us.”

But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will ^(I)by no means believe. ⁶⁸And if I ^[b]also ask you, you will by no means answer ^[c]Me or let Me go. ⁶⁹^(J)Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God.”

⁷⁰Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?”

So He said to them, ^(K)“You rightly say that I am.”

⁷¹^(L)And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”

Jesus Handed Over to Pontius Pilate^(M)

23 Then ^(N)the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to ^(O)Pilate. ²And they began to ^(P)accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow ^(Q)perverting ^[d]the nation, and ^(R)forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying ^(S)that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

³^(T)Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”

⁴So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, ^(U)“I find no fault in this Man.”

⁵But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from ^(V)Galilee to this place.”

Jesus Faces Herod

⁶When Pilate heard ^[e]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. ⁷And as soon as he knew that He belonged to ^(W)Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. ⁸Now when Herod saw Jesus, ^(X)he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because ^(Y)he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. ⁹Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him ^(Z)nothing. ¹⁰And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. ¹¹^(AA)Then Herod, with his ^[f]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. ¹²That very day ^(AB)Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.
